ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

(As at 01-09-2010)

Pauanui Pines Motor Lodge has a commitment that wherever possible our business should be conducted to the ideal of best environmental practice.

This ideal satisfies our wish that we provide guests with a home away from home that leaves as little negative mark on the environment as is reasonably possible.

To this end, we are members of Tourism Coromandel's "Sustainability Tourism" group that has been established and meets regularly to discuss and address environmental awareness action plans in our business, and other businesses on the Coromandel Peninsula.

The action plan is derived from industry information, Qualmark regulation and original thought from the members themselves and Sustainability Tourism Advisers and is measured in our business by the following key performance indicators.

To:

  • Achieve the relevant Qualmark certification.
  • Minimise waste through composting and recycling.
  • Increase energy efficiency where this does not adversely impact on our guests.
  • Reduce water useage where this does not adversely impact on our guests.
  • To regularly inform suppliers so they better understand the process we work under and for them to adopt best practices for our industry.
  • Limit the use of hazardous sustances to an absolute minimum, ensuring that where there is no viable alternative, such use complies with health and safety policy and that safe storage of these chemicals is a priority.
  • To nurture and expand the green area on our complex and to further promote our native tree and shrub plantings.

Our Social Responsibility programme is delivered through unwavering support of the local community, constant support of local area fundraising through voucher donation and gifting of surplus items such as linen to our charities of choice - The Salvation Army and SPCA.
